Orientation Activities

Before the beginning of every semester, the Centre of Development and Resources for Students (CEDARS) organizes an array of orientation and adjustment programmes, which aim to soothe the transition of the newly arrived non-local students. These include cultural adjustment sessions, city tours, outings, and more.

The Weeks of Welcome and Orientation Day for Non-local Students programmes are not mandatory. You are encouraged to join them if your schedule allows.

Every August and September, student bodies will organize a wide range of student orientation programmes on the campus. In order to facilitate your adjustment and adaptation to the HKU hall life, non-local students are encouraged to participate in the hall orientation activities, which will normally take place in late August. You can find out more details with your own hall manager or Hall Association in early August.

Weeks of Welcome (WoW)

This is a series of induction programmes for newly arrived non-local students. You are free to choose from a series of activities to be held before the beginning of each semester. The activities are a mixture of fun, fact-finding, visits and tours, aiming to help you settle down, induct into the local way, enhance cross-cultural experience and sharing, as well as explore new environments and people.

From 8 January 2024 onwards

Registration for WoW events will open around early December. Visit our WoW website for the event calendar and online registration nearer the time.

Orientation 2023-2024 

The Orientation Day for Non-local Students is one of the highlights for WoW. It provides students with essential information covering adjustment issues, support services and resources provided by CEDARS, life in Hong Kong and HKU and many more.

Date/Time: 12 January 2024 a.m. 

Venue: HKU Campus

Newly admitted students will receive an invitation email to join the Weeks of Welcome and Orientation Day in mid-Dec 2023.
