Key Service Opportunities

Relaxed Theatre (1st Semester, 2018 - 19)

Service description

Students will assist in a special theatre setting called “Relaxed Theatre” organized by the Absolutely Fabulous Theatre Connection (AFTEC) in the 1st semester of 2018-19.

Relaxed Theatre is a format of social inclusion theatre that caters performances for individuals with Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and other learning/communication challenges. Theatre rules are modified to meet the needs of the audience and create a supportive environment for them to enjoy the performance (Visit here to learn more about AFTEC and Relaxed Theatre).

Students will take up the role as Front-of-House volunteers. Main duties include:

•    Supporting the performers in creating a relaxed, interactive and discrimination-free atmosphere

•   Maintaining order at the auditorium
•   Providing assistance to the audience, e.g. escort them in and out of the house, guiding of
•   Addressing the ad hoc needs of the audience

Specific requirements

All Front-of-House volunteers are required to:
1)   Attend the training and dressed rehearsal; and
2)   Assist in at least ONE of the FOUR Relaxed Theatre shows as listed below:

What will I gain as a Front-of-House Volunteer?
•   Deeper understanding of children and teenagers with ASD and other SEN
•   Practical skills and hands-on experience in managing audience’s behaviors and interacting with
