Stigma Free Campaign
Stigma is usually expressed through stereotyping and labeling. Shame or disgrace is attached to something or someone regarded as socially unacceptable. It comes from our ignorance, silence, and fear of difference or the unknown.
The stigma of mental health is a powerful barrier. It not only leads to discrimination, misunderstanding, disrespect and violence against those living with mental illness, but also discourages people from getting help for fear of being labelled. Moreover, self-stigma occurs when people living with mental illness internalize the stigma and believe that they are unable to succeed in the society and/or improve their situations.
Fortunately, fear, misunderstanding and negative attitudes towards mental illness will disappear if we learn more about it. “Stigma Free Campaign” is a one-year campaign that promotes an anti-stigma attitude towards mental illness. Various activities such as exhibitions, talks, sharing sessions and art performances will be held to let us understand more about the lives of people with mental illness and fight against stigma with a caring heart.
Let’s respect the differences in you and me.
