Living On The Water - Water Community Student Ambassador Programme (Extended Application Deadline: 22 May 2016)
It is said that
metropolitan Hong Kong grew from a fishing village, but few of us know much
about this chapter of Hong Kong’s history. In the Southern District, Aberdeen, Ap Lei Chau
and Stanley have been important fishing ports because of their geographic
locations and the active water communities.
Since April 2015, We
Are With You (WAY) Project has been
recruiting students via the “Water Community Student Ambassador Programme” to tell
stories of the water communities through various educational activities such as
storytelling and oral history, cultural tours in Aberdeen, Ap Lei Chau and
Stanley for the public. In the summer of 2016, we will run the
cultural tours in Stanley again and develop a new route in Shau Kei Wan. Oral history and storytelling activities will
also continue to explore other fishing ports on Hong Kong Island. Student Ambassadors will receive training and
participate in activities to preserve and promote the history and culture of
water communities.
