**For students who are not admitted through the JUPAS admissions scheme, your registration with the University may only be considered probationary until all the required official documents are submitted and verified to the satisfaction of the University.

A very warm welcome to The University of Hong Kong! To make sure that you are well prepared before the beginning of your study, the following are important events and registration/enrolment procedures which you are strongly advised to complete. In particular, you are invited to participate in the Faculty Induction Talk according to your curriculum, which will provide you with fruitful information that will help you to start your HKU journey on the right path, as well as the CEDARS Non-Academic Induction Talk on the non-academic support and resources available at HKU.



  Step 1 - Master Registration

After you have obtained the HKU Portal account information, you are required to complete the online Master Registration immediately via the HKU Portal (http://www.hku.hk/portal -> Self Service -> Master Registration). Please refer to the “Guideline to Online Master Registration” for more information. This process is crucial for the production of your Student Registration Card, course selection and application for all University services/facilities.

The University Registration and Induction Programmes for New Students will be held during August 14 to 19, 2024, depending on your curriculum of study. The Programme comprises three parts, namely Faculty Induction Talk and Programme Induction Talk (if any), Talk on Common Core Courses, and CEDARS Non-Academic Induction Talk.

  • The Faculty Induction Talk and Programme Induction Talk (if any) will give you an overview of your study at HKU and your university life including introduction to your Faculty and Departments, programme structure, important academic matters such as curriculum requirement, course selection and enrolment, academic integrity, academic advising and experiential learning opportunities.
  • The Common Core Courses Talk on August 14, 2024 will provide an opportunity for you to obtain information and ask questions in relation to Common Core course selection before the first day of course selection on August 20, 2024.
  • The CEDARS Non-Academic Induction Talk will introduce you to the non-academic student services, support and resources available at HKU including new student adjustment and counselling support, support to students with disabilities and special educational needs (SEN Support), financial resources, housing, careers, co-curricular and out-of-classroom learning opportunities, and non-academic induction activities.

  Step 3 - Course Selection

You may preview the course information after you have completed the online Master Registration. Please refer to the '2024-25 Course Selection Schedule' for more information.

You are advised to study the 'Quick Guide on Course Selection and Enrollment’ carefully before performing your course selection. You may login to the HKU Portal, scroll to the bottom of left Menu and click SIS Website → Reference Materials.

To access the SIS Self Service Enrollment page, please login to the HKU Portal and click SIS Menu → Enrollment → Enrollment Add Classes.

Please contact your Faculty if you have enquiries about course selection.

  Step 4 - Application for Student Registration Card

After you have completed the online Master Registration, please go to the HKU Portal (http://www.hku.hk/portal -> Self Service -> Student Card Document Upload) to submit your photograph and supporting documents for the production of Student Registration Card. Please refer to the “Online Application for Student Registration Cards” for more information.

An email regarding the Collection of Student Registration Card will be sent to your HKU Portal email account from late August. You should bring along:

  1. the card collection email (in hard copy),
  2. the original identity documents for verification, such as HKID card/temporary HKID card/Passport/Exit and Entry Permit for travelling to or from Hong Kong and Macau, and
  3. the original and a photocopy of the Visa document (if appropriate).

for the collection of your Student Registration Card in person according to the specified date(s), time and venue printed on the email.
