Earth Day 2017 - Earth Village
Date 日期:  21 Apr 2017

Time 時間: 12:00pm - 5:00pm

Venue 地點: Haking Wong Podium

Summary 內容: The first Earth Day was founded on 22 April 1970, when 20 million Americans took to the streets to demonstrate against oil spills, pollution, loss of wilderness and extinction of wildlife.  The protests were in support of a healthy and sustainable environment inspired by US Senator Gaylord Nelson. After almost half a century, the Earth is still at stake.  In 2017, sea ice at the Earth’s poles is reaching record lows, while low-lying coastal countries are threatened by rising sea level, like Maldives and some villages of Bangladesh.  We are seeing and perhaps even experiencing record-breaking extreme temperatures, but our world is still full of climate change deniers.  Despite these challenges, we will celebrate Earth Day with a sense of climate optimism, starting with enriching our environmental and climate literacy, and then changing our behaviors. You will be surprised at how small changes can lead to big impacts. Join our Pre-Earth Day series on April 21 with music, workshops, bazaar and be inspired to protect and conserve our Mother Earth for the future generation!

This event is co-organised with Sustainability Office and Lung Fu Shan Environmental Education Centre.

Look out for Grate Art at HKU!
Grate Art is a project organized by Ocean Recovery Alliance to bring art to the streets of Hong Kong to remind our community about ocean and water protection. These colorful plaques bring a subtle, artistic message to our streets, to remind all of us in our daily, busy lives, not to dump into drains, as they lead to the sea. The plaques are designed by 6 local artists and 2 from China. Student volunteers from Greenwoods and ENVS are installing plaques in 16 locations across campus during the week of April 17-21 as part of the campus Earth Day celebrations.
