Summary 內容: | Within Every Woman is the shortened, educational version of the documentary The Apology (2016) which explores the lives of former ‘comfort women’, the more than 200,000 women and girls forced into sexual slavery during World War II. Toronto-based filmmaker, Tiffany Hsiung profiles three former comfort women from South Korea, China, and the Philippines. Each of their powerful testimonies contains heartbreaking and uplifting details. A discussion on, ‘Women and War: the Legacy of Gendered Wartime Sexual Violence’ will follow. Bio of Speaker(s) 講者簡介: | Ms. Flora Chong Flora Chong was born in Hong Kong and immigrated to Canada in 1987. She earned her Bachelor degree in Business and Information System at Concordia University, Canada and earned her Master degree in Social Justice and Education at the Institute of Education, University of London. Deeply moved by Iris Chang’s book The Forgotten Holocaust: The Rape of Nanking, Flora joined ALPHA (Association for Learning and Preserving the History of WWII in Asia) Education in 2004 and started serving the role of Executive Director on voluntary basis in 2005. In the past 13 years, Flora has worked with many survivors, scholars and peace activists in Asia and North America in promoting global awareness of the Asia Pacific War, and has spearheaded many educational projects that foster critical understanding of the often-overlooked history of WWII in Asia, in the interest of furthering the values of social justice and humanity education. She received the Queen Elizabeth II Golden Jubilee Medal in 2002 and the Diamond Jubilee Medal in 2012 for her contributions to the community. Mr. Sebastien Fung Sebastien Fung read political science at Kyoto University on the Japanese Government (Monbusho) Scholarship and received his LLB in 1994. He then obtained an M.Phil. in international relations from the University of Cambridge in the following year. His teaching and research interests include Sino-Japanese relations, international relations of East Asia, and domestic politics and foreign policy of Japan. Before joining HKU in 2006 he had taught at City University of Hong Kong between 1997 and 2000. Prof. Ho Sik Ying, Petula Petula Ho is Professor in the Department of Social Work & Social Administration at HKU. Her main research and teaching interests are in the area of gender/sexuality issues and the impact of social movement on personal life. Her recent work include, Sex and Desire in Hong Kong, co-edited with Ka Tat Tsang. She is also author of I am Ho Sik Ying, 55 years old (2013), Everyday Life in the Age of Resistance (2015), and co-author of Umbrella Politics Quartet (2015). Her current projects include using documentary films and multi-media theatre to explore the integration of arts and scholarship. They include: 22 Springs: The Invincible; The “Kong-lo” Chronicles and The Umbrella Movement: A Collaborative Focus group Analysis. |
