GE2015-52A/B/C
Hong Kong is facing a new, or renewed, set of challenges linked to its economy, culture, and politics. The lecture/forum series ‘Hong Kong Agenda’ has been organised for several years, bringing together many expert speakers from different fields to explore how Hong Kong strengthens its competitive edge, and reinforces its value and influence in Asia and the world.
Under the glamorous billboards and skyscrapers, land and housing are said to be the greatest problems of this metropolis. Meanwhile, some regard academic autonomy and press freedom, which are vital to democracy, as being under unprecedented threat. In response to the changing dynamics, the series will address these issues this semester.

Debates over university governance are widely seen, be it here in HKU or other campuses. Some regard academic freedom and institutional autonomy, which are guaranteed under the Basic Law, as being under unprecedented threat. This forum may leave you only more questions that do not have any definite answers. Yet, a rational discussion, rather than sitting on the sidelines, will always give you a fuller picture.
Join us to discuss about the challenges and way forward of the university governance in Hong Kong - for we are all educated individuals. All students, staff, alumni, and members of the public are welcome.

While 2014 saw the gravest threat to press freedom in Hong Kong according to the World Press Freedom Index, many new media groups were established after the Occupy Movement. They take a multifaceted journalistic approach to the rapidly transforming city of Hong Kong, while facing the opportunities and challenges posed by the economic and political dynamics. Representatives from these newly born news media groups will share with you their journey in this exciting yet challenging new age of journalism in Hong Kong.
