GE2019-42
Book Club: In Love and War
The programme GE2019-42 Book Club: In Love and War is cancelled. Enrolled students will be contacted by email  for the full refund in due course.

Required Readings:

- Birdsong by Sebastian Faulks
- World War One British Poets: Brooke, Owen, Sassoon, Rosenberg and Others

War and love are themes from which great epics spring – think of Helen of Troy (Iliad). Put them together in modern day language and you have one of the most moving novels on the human experience of World War I (Birdsong). But, while prose tells a good story, poetry best expresses the deepest feelings at the bottom of our hearts. A reading of the World War I British Poets cannot fail to be heart-rending. More still - great music – both classical and popular – has also been inspired by World War I, and you will encounter some of the best in both genres, plus brilliant documentaries on war and its consequences, on history, and in culture.
As always, we expect interactive participation by all members of the Book Club.
