Back-to-Live-Music Series
It is no exaggeration to say that the past two years have been the years of “virtual burnout,” as so many experiences have inevitably become online experiences. This series will feature talented student musicians and reconnect us “in-person” again during these challenging times. Music events will happen across the main campus and Sassoon Road campus in the forms of livehouse, busking and staged performance.

Our performers are ready, and their musical instruments are tuned. It’s time to resume after the long pause and get back to the infinite world of music with their enchanting songs and tunes around the campuses.

Brighten Music
“Hi! We are HKUBrightenmusic, a music group formed by passionate musicians from different faculties in HKU. Guided by the school motto ‘Brighten Me with Virtues’, we aim to provide meaningful band performances to spread positive energy to the public.”
Medici Band
Medici Band is a hard rock / pop rock band formed by Andy Kan (band leader, vocalist and guitarist), Tom Yeung (vocalist), Logan Tang (bassist), Aaron Lam (drummer/guitarist) and Karl Wong (keyboardist/drummer), who are medical students of HKU. Members of the band have been featured in various performances, including the opening ceremony of the Learning Commons of HKUMed, HKU Music Club Cantopop Night 2021, ‘LET THE SEN • STARS SHINE 2021’ Charity Show, as well as the recording and performance of the theme song produced by Diabetes Hongkong in celebration of the 100th anniversary of the discovery of insulin. The band is active in composing original songs on top of covering and rearranging songs by other bands and artists. Medici Band hopes to narrate different stories through music and impact people's lives with inspirations.
Johnson Chan (BA&LLB Year 5)
“Hi, I’m JC. I am a singersong writer. I write songs because that’s my way to channel my love, feelings and ideas to this universe. I’m multi-faceted and so are my songs. They can be pop, R&B, canton-pop, blah blah blah… yeah, basically, I don’t set boundaries to music. Let’s open up and together and venture into the unknown. No fear. See you.”
