Sketching HKU – Natural and Historical Landscape
It is easy to take photos of the cityscape nowadays, but have you thought of sketching it?

Follow artist and HKU alumna, Elaine Chiu and sketch the iconic natural and historical landscape on campus with pencil and watercolours! Don’t worry about the fundamentals— you will be guided through the process, from drafting to colouring.

‘Sketching HKU’ is a series of art workshops capturing the beauty and serenity of the HKU campus, while learning the rich and unique history and stories of our century old campus from various angles, which could be the essential part of being HKUers. This summer, a group of students have learnt the basics of watercolour sketching from Elaine and have finished paintings of the Main Building and Run Run Shaw Heritage House. Participants of this workshop will finish two paintings, one each of the Lily Pond and Fung Ping Shan Building, respectively. The sketching practice will be divided into two parts: (1) introducing sketching and perspective drawing in pencil; (2) focusing on watercolours and their application. Elaine will also be there to take any questions you may have about becoming a professional artist!

Participants’ works will be exhibited on campus, details to be announced.

Elaine attained a Bachelor’s degree in art history at The University of Hong Kong in 2018, where she received the Talent Development Scholarship (2015) and Out Reaching Award (2016) from the Hong Kong SAR Government.
