What kind of video work can be re-created from a theater work that has already been performed, and eight HKU students who have watched the performance? Could it be a spaceship that shuttles through the "Hard Times"?
"In this information-saturated world, we receive, come into contact with, and spread a lot of information every day, but it's easy to ignore the 'now' and the 'present'. Some seemingly simple and ordinary things, such as food ingredients, are moments and experiences in every step we take in cutting, peeling, and carrying them. Such ordinariness is actually our 'times'... The 'difficulty' in the 'Hard Times' does not necessarily refer to the kind of 'difficulties' we face in our actual lives. In the 'kitchen', the tension and confusion that I felt were also my 'Hard Times’." One of the students who had participated in the pre-performance talk, performance, and experiential workshop said this.
"Returning to Studio 303 of Chong Yuet Ming Cultural Centre. The last time I was here was in the 1990s when I hosted several series of General Education programmes. Pushing the door, I wondered, where are the people who spent those times together? Who shared those memories? Today, the eight students who have just watched the performance came here to experience what 'first-person perspective' means by experiencing what the characters in the play have experienced." Edward Lam, the director of “Hard Times”, and the host of the experiential workshop, expressed his expectations.
"Theater is a classroom" – one of the important functions of theatre works is demonstration, that is, "inference" and "practice"; a space that drives the "answer" as a force for "question" to emerge.
Days have passed, and the space has changed. Can a work be transformed into another work? Can people who have gone through hardships extract what kind of "universe" from it?
Has the spaceship landed? Does the spaceship need to land?
You are cordially invited to come aboard and take a look.
