Through a series of screenings and a documentary mentorship programme, the project “HK20+1” aims to create additional pathways for members of HKU and the public in Hong Kong to revisit the city’s history and discuss on the social, economic, cultural aspects of Hong Kong, as well as to enhance appreciation of documentary. The documentary mentorship programme to be held in the second semester will further encourage students to document the current Hong Kong.
This programme is selected as one of the Impact Projects in the Knowledge Exchange (KE) Funding Scheme 2017/18.

On 30 June 1997, the British flag was lowered for the last time over Hong Kong, marking the end of a colonial era that began with the Opium Wars in the 1800s.
Amid dire predictions of economic collapse and political repression under Chinese rule, Ruby Yang returns to her childhood home to see how it will reconcile its British past with a Chinese future. Five young Hong Kongers equipped with digital camcorders help her chronicle the evolution of a new post - colonial identity. Yang's personal perspective, interwoven among the video diaries, gracefully frames both prospects.

This is about eighty- year- old Tseng Tso-Choi, the self-styled "King of Kowloon", who believes he has an ancestral right to Kowloon and has spent decades in poverty writing about this on the streets of Hong Kong. Using a calligraphy brush, he attacks the public surfaces of Hong Kong with a litany of historical and personal names. Filmed on the eve of Hong Kong's historical handover, this documentary offers a glimpse at a pivotal moment in history and laden with questions about identity--both personal and politcal.

《九龍皇帝》是一部長達半小時的紀錄片，講述有關曾的生平和他生活中的城市，從街頭訪問中至與曾坦白的討論他本人，本片探討了他書法後，幽默和感人的故事。
攝製歷時一年的《九龍皇帝》是首部全片深入探討這永不忘掉和獨特的人，本片大部份用廣東話拍攝。本片是電影制作人馬田依近和沈瓊安在香港工作一年多的處女作。

During the seventh lunar month, when the Ghost Festival takes place, Chinese pay tribute to their ancestors and offer food to the deceased to appease them and ward off bad luck. In Hong Kong, besides staging ceremonies to honor the dead, many Taoist organizations give away rice to the elderly and the poor. The rice distribution depicted in this film was one of the largest events, and attracted over eight thousand people. The event was scheduled to last from nine in the morning to six in the evening. In order to ensure a place in the line, most of the participants arrived before dawn.
故事描述2002年在慈雲山球場舉行的一次盂蘭節派米活動。參加輪米人士約有八千二百人，大部份為長者，當中亦有不少傷殘人士。派米活動在早上開始，直至傍晚結束，大部份參加者在零晨已抵達輪候。派平安米活動本為香港的傳統習俗，但近年因貧窮的長者數目不斷増加，很多長者以此賴以生存。
