HYAB – United Nations Volunteer Internship Programme 2026


The Programme aims to offer a valuable opportunity for students to volunteer in the UN agencies/field units through which they can contribute to global peace and development, gain exposure and experience and build their capacity with a broader perspective.  

The Programme is funded by the Home and Youth Affairs Bureau (HYAB) and launched by the Agency for Volunteer Service (AVS) since 2015, in partnership with the United Nations Volunteers (UNV) with a view to promoting youth volunteerism.   


Eligibility: Undergraduates aged 18-30, holder of valid Hong Kong Permanent Identity Card/Hong Kong Identity Card

Service Location: Kazakhstan, Lao People's Democratic Republic Nepal, Thailand, Uzbekistan, Vietnam  

Field Units:

  • United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) 
  • United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) 
  • United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) 
  • United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women(UN Women) 
  • United Nations Volunteers (UNV) 

Duration: Around 6 months from July to December 2026 

Funded by HYAB: Round trip travel costs from Hong Kong to duty station, monthly living allowance and health/life insurance  

Application Procedure: 

  1. Read the information on the website (including programme pamphlet and promotional video) before you apply. 

  2. Download and fill in the application form and submit it to CEDARS online by 5 pm, 8 January 2026 (Thu)

  3. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to attend an internal interview arranged by CEDARS on 13 January 2026 (Tue).  

To provide more details on the Programme, a briefing session will be held at CUHK from 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm on 5 January 2026 (Mon). Interested students should register here by 2 January 2026.
