Student Travel Funds

Student travel funds are available for application from full-time local students who need financial support to participate in various enrichment activities abroad.  


Types of Eligible Activities: Field trips, internships, study tours, service-learning programmes, exchange programmes, non-academic conferences, and competitions. 


Eligibility:
  • Full-time local students who are in receipt of government financial assistance.
  • Have received confirmed offer of admission to one of the following types of learning activities: field trips, internships, study tours, service-learning programmes, exchange programmes, non-academic conferences, and competitions.   (For semester 2 exchange programmes: students can apply for the UFA (Main Exercise) in September).
  • The activity must take place outside Hong Kong (i.e., Chinese Mainland or overseas).
  • Priority is accorded to official HKU programmes.
  • Preference is given to students without other source of university support and who have successfully applied for the Government financial aids.

Award: 
  • Bursary and/ or interest-free loan.
  • Includes Convocation Enrichment Bursary for Outbound Students, Hsin Chong - K.N. Godfrey Yeh Travel Loan Fund, Lee King Him Bursary Fund.

Award Amount:  
  • Ranges from HK$3,000 to HK$30,000.  
  • Level of awards depends on the (a) nature, duration, cost of programme; (b) relevance to student's academic study; (c) financial circumstances of the student.

Application Procedure:
  1. Eligible students can apply on-line after receiving a confirmed offer of admission to the programme.  Students will be notified of the interview arrangement after initial screening.
  2. Students should be able to provide details of the dates/duration and estimated expenses of the overseas trip/programmes as well as their own budgeting plan at the time of the interview.

When to Apply:
  • Retrospective application is not accepted.  Students should apply on-line at least 14 working days prior to their departure. 
  • Application is open throughout the year.
