New students will have the opportunity to explore campus, meet their fellow classmates, and learn about academic planning through visits to their respective faculty and academic societies. They can also join diverse interest clubs and attend student-led orientation activities. Additionally, students are encouraged to visit information booths and join hall tours for both residential and non-residential halls.

Inauguration Ceremony for New Students


This is the University's formal welcome to all first-year students at which new students will meet the principal officers and senior academics of the University. The Inauguration Ceremony also consists of a Robing Ceremony which signifies the official induction of the new students to the University family. All new students are expected to attend.

Weeks of Welcome (WoW) Tours

A series of fun, fact-finding local tours led by student hosts to help new non-local undergraduate students to immerse themselves in Hong Kong culture, explore the city, and connect with their peers.

Duties:
1. Take charge of leading campus and HK tours for new non-local students;
2. Act as a welcoming resource by sharing your personal experiences and knowledge of Hong Kong culture.

Orientation Day for Non-local Students

This is an orientation session specially designed for newly arrived non-local students, featuring student performances, informative talks, student sharing, and campus orienteering activities.

Aske me anything Counter

Ask me anything Counter is a welcoming and accessible support point for new students, offering guidance to help them navigate both the university life and the city of Hong Kong.

Duties:
1. Answer questions about university life;
2. Refer new students to the support and resources available at HKU;
3. Provide information on campus events, clubs, and organizations.

Briefing Session:
18 Aug @ 12:30p.m. - 1:30p.m.

19 - 31 Aug 2026 (Mon to Sun) - 13 days

High West
High West Student Village Launch

Duties: 
1. Assist residents with registration and check-in procedures. 
2. Guide residents to their assigned rooms and provide orientation on facilities. 
3. Distribute access cards. password, and welcome materials. 
4. Offer general customer service and respond to resident inquiries. 
5. Coordinate with security and administrative teams to maintain order. 

Mass Move-in period:
19 - 31 Aug @ 9:00a.m. - 6:00p.m.

Number of helpers required: 20 (5 for each college) 

Remark: Helpers are not required to work all 13 consecutive days. A daily team of 12–16 helpers will be sufficient to cover the workload. 

Note: Honorarium excludes lunch hours, rehearsals and briefing sessions.

Duties #: Welcome students and guests, serve as ushers, answer enquiries, assist in admission, crowd control and other duties as assigned.

Duties:
- Be accessible to answer inquiries from new non-local undergraduates and share your own experiences of campus life
- Participate in a briefing/training session in August/September
- Participate and organize gatherings with the new students throughout the year

Benefits:

- Develop and refine your communication skills while actively participating in profound cultural exchange
- Earn an honorarium of $300 upon successfully completing the programme
