Cultural Tours in Shau Kei Wan

Student Development Team
Shau Kei Wan
23 July, 2017
10:00 - 12:00

Shau Kei Wan, a district located in the eastern part of the Hong Kong Island, has a long history of community development. The earliest occupants are believed to be the Hakka people who involved in stone quarrying. When Hong Kong was ceded to the British, Shau Kei Wan had developed into a big village. Because of its geographical features, it is a good typhoon shelter and a strategic site for military defence. Due to rapid urbanization in the past decades, these special features of Shau Kei Wan have become our memory and history. The cultural tours, guided by HKU student docents, will lead you to review these historical changes by walking through both the old parts and the newly built areas of Shau Kei Wan.
