Lady Ho Tung Hall is HKU’s only female residential hall, founded in 1951 with a gift from Sir Robert Ho Tung in memory of his wife Lady Margaret Ho Tung. Like the Ho Tung family, Lady Ho Tung Hall brings together East and West to create a residential atmosphere rooted in Hong Kong tradition and looking to the future. Over the years, residents have gone on to become leaders in government, the arts, architecture, medicine, law, education, and academia. In 2001 the Hall was rebuilt and doubled in size, expanding this unique opportunity of female residential life to even more students. Lady Ho Tung Hall thus offers a rich historical tradition in a modern living environment.

There are 404 residential places. All first-year students live in double rooms. A few single rooms are available for returning residents. Many rooms have a sea view. Each floor has a pantry where residents prepare meals and join in social events such as floor desserts. The Hall includes a study room, a lounge, a band room, and other common areas for activities. Neighboring Ho Tim Hall is used for large events. Lady Hotung Hall is conveniently located, just a 3 minute walk to the MTR station and campus.

Sisterhood and leadership are emphasized throughout hall education, exemplified by the motto “Unity, Strive for the Best, Tough and Strong.” All residents are encouraged to participate in hall education. Lady Ho Tung hall is strong in athletics with multiple sports teams, Residents also join cultural teams and interest groups; the Green Group is especially active. Through engaging in hall activities, hallmates develop strong bonds with one another, build a sense of belonging, and develop life and leadership skills.
